PHOENICIA ELEMENTARY… On Wednesday, January 20, the winter concert featured a premier performance by the Phoenicia Jazz Band. Mr.Laks and Mr. Schubert teamed up this year to put together a jazz band, and the school aims for jazz to remain a strong addition to the music program. Justin Kolb has signed on to do a one day residency at Phoenicia Elementary School compliments of Kids In The Kaatskills. The scheduled date is Friday, Feb 26 with a snow date of Friday, March 19.
BENNETT ELEMENTARY…Retired Bennett teacher (for 40 years!) Rudy Hellenschmidt does a residency on art history with sixth grade social studies students. Hellenschmidt does a session on each major social studies unit, and by the end of sixth grade, students can name the three types and sizes of sculpture, tell the differences between old and new Greek pottery, can distinguish a Greek sculpture from a Roman copy, and know about vanishing points, perspective, and why fresco painting is an unforgiving art.
MIDDLE SCHOOL …Eighth grade students read and performed the screenplay To Kill a Mockingbird by Horton Foote in their English classes. They will follow this up by attending a performance of To Kill a Mockingbird on March 17 at the Capital Repertory Theater in Albany. Selected students will then reenact a scene from the play during the Battle of the Books Final Four in April.
MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL… Justin Kolb, and Mikhail Horowitz Perform February 4, 7:30 pm in the newly-refurbished Harry Simon auditorium on 4166 State Route 28, Boiceveille, NY. Mr. Kolb is also a popular speaker on music education. No tickets required. Admission is Free.
WEBPOSIUM for Teaching Artists to learn more about the challenges and success of working with disabled students, followed by Q&A
